A driving experience that's unrivalled in its class.

The 2022 Acura TLX is offered in five trim levels: Base, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, and Type S. Most come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 272 hp and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. The Type S is the only outlier, since it gets a twin-turbo 3.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 355 hp and 354 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The base, Technology, and A-Spec come standard with front-wheel drive but are eligible for all-wheel drive, which is standard on the Advance and Type S.

Fuel Economy

Despite its brawn, the ’22 TLX is nicely efficient. According to the EPA’s official estimates, the FWD base, Technology, and A-Spec return an estimated 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. With AWD, those same trims along with the Advance achieve 21 city/29 highway. The Type S trades some efficiency for additional performance, with a rating of 19 city/24 highway.

Standard and Available Amenities

The base-level TLX gets a moonroof, heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators and reverse gear tilt-down (to help with parking), keyless entry, keyless ignition, LED headlights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, simulated leather sport seats, power-adjustable and heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, two USB charging ports, a USB audio interface, a 12-volt power outlet, a 7-inch multi-information display, and a 60/40-split folding rear seatback.

The Technology trim is upgraded with 27-color ambient interior lighting, perforated leather sport seats, and GPS-linked automatic climate control, which senses changing weather conditions and automatically adjusts the cabin temperature to maintain a consistent level of comfort. The A-Spec puts forth a race-inspired attitude with sportier exterior accents, a decklid spoiler, Ultrasuede-trimmed sport seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and LED fog lights. It also has ventilated front seats and wireless phone charging.

The Advance goes with the more traditional look without the decklid spoiler, Ultrasuede-trimmed seats, or flat-bottomed steering wheel. But it’s enhanced with adaptive suspension dampers, rain-sensing wipers, a windshield wiper de-icer, power-folding exterior mirrors, front seats with thigh extension and side bolsters, a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, and a 10.5-inch head-up display. The Type S essentially the A-Spec’s standard features with heightened performance: a mightier engine, Brembo brakes, Pirelli Cinturato P7 all-season tires (Pirelli P-Zero summer tires are optional), high-performance chassis bracing, and a Sport+ drive mode.

Active Safety Features

Every ’22 TLX comes standard with the AcuraWatch Advanced Safety & Driver Assist technology suite. It includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, traffic jam assist, and traffic sign recognition. Automatic high beams are standard as well. The Technology trim is bolstered with blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors, while the Advance welcomes a surround-view camera system.

Technology Features

The multimedia system in the latest TLX gets more advanced with each successive trim. The Base has a 10.2-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition, Siri Eyes Free, a Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a premium 10-speaker sound system. Navigation and an ELS Studio 13-speaker sound system are added to the Technology trim, while the A-Spec and remaining trims have an ELS Studio 3D sound system with 17 speakers.
