2026 Acura RSX Preview

The Acura RSX nameplate is making a comeback, but not in the way enthusiasts of the beloved 2002 – 2006 sport compact might expect. Instead, Acura is resurrecting the RSX moniker for an all-new electric crossover for model year 2026. It will become Acura's second EV, following the well-received ZDX, which launched last year. However, the RSX will be the first Acura built from the ground up on a dedicated Honda EV platform.

The RSX will be assembled at Honda's EV Hub, which is currently under construction in Ohio. This multi-billion dollar facility is being converted to flexibly produce EVs, hybrids, and other vehicles. Production of the RSX is slated to begin in late 2025, with sales to follow in early 2026. Although Acura hasn’t released a ton of information, we’ve put together what we know so far and what we forecast for the RSX.

Design

Acura has released a teaser image of a camouflaged five-door RSX prototype that provides some clues about the crossover's design. We can expect style befitting a state-of-the-art EV, with a coupe-like silhouette and a rakish roofline evident in the model. Angular vents accent the rear bumper and front doors, hinting at the RSX's performance aspirations. A full-width light bar spans the RSX's tail, a modern design cue seen on other recent Acura models.

As an evolution of the striking Precision EV Concept that Acura unveiled last year, the RSX's styling should make a commanding statement. Look for modern interpretations of classic Acura cues, like a pentagon-shaped grille, chicane LED headlights, and pronounced rear haunches. The prototype's proportions suggest that the RSX will slot in size-wise below the larger ZDX.

Platform and Powertrain

Under the sheet metal, the RSX will use an all-new EV architecture that will also underpin upcoming Honda EVs. Acura hasn't released specifications, but based on the platform sharing, the RSX will likely offer single and dual-motor configurations with varying power outputs and driving ranges. All-wheel drive is expected to be available, and possibly standard on higher trims. Battery size, range, and charging capabilities are unknown at this point.

According to industry reports, vehicles built on the new Honda platform will incorporate the NACS charging standard, enabling these EVs to access the Tesla Supercharger network. In addition, Honda and Acura are partnered with other automakers on the fledgling IONNA network, which seeks to offer 30,000 charging locations by the end of the decade.

Technology and Features

Inside, the RSX will debut Honda's new ASIMO OS infotainment system. While the specifics remain under wraps, ASIMO OS is expected to offer an intuitive interface, over-the-air updates, and an array of connected features and services. Reports suggest that Acura might introduce a Level 3 hands-free, eyes-free driving system, a big leap for the brand. Based on Acura’s premium positioning, features like a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, and a high-performance audio system are a safe bet.

Production

With the RSX, Acura will expand its EV lineup into the hugely popular compact luxury crossover segment. We should see more concrete details on performance, trims, and specifications in the coming weeks. While it may share little with its sporty predecessor besides the name, the RSX EV is expected to be a key addition to Acura's electric future.
