2025 Acura MDX

The Acura MDX is back after some refreshing for the 2025 model year. Along with a few cosmetic updates – including a new front bumper, a revised grille with a mesh design, and fresh wheel styling – the upscale midsized crossover also has a more intuitive Google-based infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Plus, the center console has been reworked to provide additional storage space and a more accessible wireless phone charger, and 16-way power-adjustable front seats with massage are available.

The base MDX boasts an improved audio system, while the available ELS Studio system from the 2024 model has been replaced by a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen (B&O) setup. In the top-of-the-line Type S Advance, a B&O system with a whopping 31 speakers is standard. Each trim also now gets a rear seatbelt reminder, and thanks to the MDX’s new laminated rear window glass and enhanced sound insulation, the cabin is extra tranquil. To top it off, Acura has upgraded many of the MDX’s advanced driver-assist technologies.

Trims, Powertrain, and Performance

The 2025 Acura MDX is a premium three-row crossover that’s offered in six trim packages: Base, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, A-Spec Advance, and Type S Advance. Most of those are run by a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 290 hp and 267 lb.-ft. of torque, but the Type S Advance features a turbocharged 3.0-liter twin-scroll V6 producing 355 hp and 354 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard in the Base and Technology, but they’re eligible for all-wheel drive (AWD), which comes standard in the others.

As far as towing, the FWD MDX can pull up to 3,500 pounds; AWD raises that cap to 5,000 lb. Fuel efficiency is good for a three-row vehicle, with the FWD version achieving 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway and the AWD edition staying nearly the same at 19 city/25 highway.

Impressive Amenities

The Base packs a lot of value with plenty of standard amenities. For convenience, it has proximity keyless entry, wireless phone charging, a power liftgate, push-button start, automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators and reverse gear tilt-down, a multi-functional second-row bench with a removable middle seat, a 50/50-split third-row seat, four USB charging ports (one Type-A and three Type-C), two 12V power outlets, and a hidden storage compartment with a reversible lid. This trim’s nicest touches include a panoramic moonroof, leatherette upholstery, heated power-adjustable front seats with driver's position memory, tri-zone automatic climate control, active sound control, a leather-wrapped power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, ambient LED cabin lighting, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and CabinTalk (Acura’s in-car intercom system).

The Technology enhances refinement with remote start, perforated leather upholstery with contrast stitching, position memory for the front passenger’s seat, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a hands-free liftgate, power-folding side mirrors, and a 27-color ambient interior lighting system. The A-Spec adds sporty flair with perforated leather upholstery featuring Ultrasuede inserts and contrast stitching, heated and ventilated front seats, a leather-wrapped flat-bottomed steering wheel, LED fog lights, and stainless-steel footrests and pedals.

The Advance combines elements of the Technology trim with the A-Spec's LED fog lights. Beyond that, it gains curvilinear-quilted leather upholstery, roof rails, heated and ventilated massaging front seats with power side bolsters and thigh extension, heated outboard second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, a 10.5-inch head-up display, an expanded ambient interior lighting system, LED welcome lights (in the door handles), and two additional USB charging ports (one Type-A and one Type-C). Meanwhile, the A-Spec Advance merges the athletic attributes of the A-Spec with the upmarket features of the Advance.

The range-topping Type S Advance takes performance to the next level with a more potent engine, an auto-leveling adaptive air suspension, Brembo brakes, and a unique exterior design. It also includes the curvilinear-quilted leather upholstery also found in the Advance, along with the Ultrasuede inserts from the A-Spec.

Advanced Safety Features

The AcuraWatch driver-assist technology bundle is standard across all trims. This advanced suite consists of forward collision warning with collision mitigation braking and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, traffic jam assist, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams.

The Technology and higher trims are bolstered by low-speed braking control and front and rear parking sensors. The Advance, A-Spec Advance, and Type S Advance also get a surround-view camera and head-up warning. The Type S Advance provides even more cutting-edge driving aids, such as front cross-traffic warning, evasive steering warning, cornering speed assist, lane change collision mitigation, and active lane change assist.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The MDX debuts a new infotainment system for 2025 featuring a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Google built-in. On top of that, it comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, natural voice recognition, Amazon Alexa, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming. The default audio system has 11 speakers, while the Technology, A-Spec, Advance, and A-Spec Advance upgrade to a 19-speaker B&O unit. For the ultimate listening experience, the Type S Advance introduces an impressive 31-speaker B&O array.
