The 2023 Acura TLX has earned its reputation as a dynamic and feature-filled four-door. Power and Performance
The Acura TLX has the leading edge over the Audi A4 when it comes to pure athleticism. Most trims get a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that churns out 272 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque, but the powerful Type S variant has a 3.0-liter V6 that makes 355 hp and 354 lb.-ft. of torque. The A4 also offers a choice of two engines, both of which are less provocative than the base powerplant in the TLX. Plus, Acura’s sophisticated sports sedan comes with a superior 10-speed automatic transmission, while the A4 gets a seven-speed automatic.
Higher-Level Amenities
The TLX has a leg up over the A4 in the luxury equipment department. For example, while both the TLX Advance and the A4 Premium Plus trims come with heated front seats, the Advance’s also receive ventilation. The TLX Advance even gets heated rear outboard seats, which are not provided in the A4 Premium Plus. Elegance is on full display in the TLX Advance since it’s issued an intuitive touchpad control system that lets you toggle through various infotainment settings without taking your eyes off the road. With A4 Premium, a touchpad interface is unavailable. Other remarkable features in the TLX Advance that you can’t enjoy in the A4 Premium Plus include active sound control, adaptive dampers, remote start, GPS-linked climate control, and 3D navigation.
Advanced Safety Systems
While both models have a suite of notable driving aids (like forward collision warning, a surround-view camera system, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert), the TLX Advance gets a few exclusives over the A4 Premium Plus, such as road departure mitigation, traffic sign recognition, and a head-up display. As far as being able to keep your eyes on the road, the TLX has the True Touchpad for controlling the car’s audio and information display. Using it is intuitive to the point that the driver can do it all by feel, without needing to look down at it – and away from the road ahead. On that note, the TLX Advance comes with a head-up display for minimal distraction, while the comparably priced A4 Premium Plus does not have this feature.
Warranties and Complimentary Maintenance
Both of these models are covered by a 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty. The difference comes with their powertrain coverage: Acura’s warranty is superior since it expires after 6 years/70,000 miles, as opposed to Audi’s 4 years/50,000 miles. TLX buyers also get a 2-year/24,000-mile complimentary maintenance plan, which covers routine oil and filter changes, tire rotations, and multipoint inspections. The A4 doesn’t get coverage like this; instead, Audi Care mileage-based maintenance packages (which start at $1,199) must be purchased.
